My last post here was in December 2022. Writing since then only happened in scribbles and in my head. The last few months have been tough, both mentally and physically with increased and ‘new’ illness and further creative challenges as my hands just didn’t want to do what my mind wanted. Even with help. It brought me to a great sense of loss. After my move into full time care (April 2020) and several online lecture events, I made the decision that it is time to retire from public engagement regarding my life and work. The cloth doll is obviously not my most amazing work, but perhaps the most significant. It is the first ever doll I made at the age of ten. Nearly 50 years ago.
I had already made a few dolls clothes by then on the singer sewing machine and also by hand. Some knitted. A deja-vu moment
... as two years (2001?) or so into the illness I also de-constructed a studio. A small amount of art materials were saved and stored in boxes in the shed of my new home. Over the years they came out when I became able to sculpt again, and later do art projects with the kids in my street.
Move forwards a decade or so and once again I had a fully fledged studio in the Corina Duynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16721121652824312851noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-824937920425155799.post-80991825207448894712021-03-01T08:40:00.001+00:002021-03-01T08:40:46.905+00:00Early retirement? I hope this finds you all well in this utterly strange time. Life is ever changing. Life is never linear. But who would have imagined a year ago that the world would change beyond recognition. For me personally, in the strangeness of life with chronic illness, not a whole lot has changed. At least not in the way of being housebound. Life is never linear. Life can be like a rollercoaster ride with its gentle rolls where one can take a deep breath of relief only to experience those terrifying highs and lows again. Such is life. Presently lots is changing. In terms of my health. In terms of the care I require. As well as changes in my care team. Lots to comprehend. Time to rewrite - time for a new era.
