The Beauty of Decay

A thought for today

Is the tulip only beautiful
when it shows petals
in perfect formation
with the right combination and qualities

of shape and colour

Consider the petals tight together
as if reluctant to share their secret

Stretching upwards
they open up

One by one, the petals fall off
An unfolding piece of art

The Beauty of Decay

Are we humans only beautiful
when we are the perfect specimen
with the right combination and qualities
of ability and strength

Consider a life unfolding
full of unknown promise
We reach out
Open up

An illness strikes
Decay sets in

We are still beautiful
